From 20 June to 29 August, Fleet Street Quarter will be transformed into a dynamic hub of sporting activities designed to inspire movement, community engagement, and spirited play.
Bringing the Fusion Games to Life
The Fusion Games is the brainchild of Kit & Caboodle and the Architects of Happiness, who have expertly designed, produced, and delivered a series of dynamic consumer events and activations for Fleet Street Quarter. Their goal was to uniquely highlight the Summer of Sport, ensuring it outshines competing city campaigns.
Community involvement was paramount, with residents' and businesses' participation being key. Bold, vibrant graphics and sporting elements were infused to appeal to a diverse audience, encouraging exploration of Fleet Street Quarter, uncovering hidden gems, and transforming hubs into social catalysts. The aim was to create an inclusive environment where everyone could connect and celebrate the joy of sports.
What to Expect at the Fusion Games
The Fusion Games offer a variety of free sporting and leisure activities that cater to all ages and abilities. Here’s a glimpse of what you can look forward to:
Wallball Court in New Street Square
Discover the thrill of urban Wallball at the City’s first community Wallball court in New Street Square. Adorned with a striking mural by celebrated artist Donough O’Malley, this court is a vibrant sporting spectacle amidst the urban landscape. Wallball is a fast-growing global sport with a thriving World Tour and discussions about Olympic inclusion. It's a game of skill where participants hit a ball against a wall using their hands, similar to squash but without a racquet.
The UK Wallball Association, the National Governing Body and Charity for the sport, will be offering complimentary training sessions. Coaches and players from Team GBR will be on site to run games and activities, making it a must-visit favorite throughout the summer.
Pop-Up Table Tennis
Test your skills or enjoy a friendly match at our pop-up table tennis stations. These tables will be set up at various iconic locations within Fleet Street Quarter, inviting both seasoned players and newcomers to get involved. Whether you're a pro or just looking to have some fun, these tables are perfect for a quick game during your lunch break or after work.
Urban Bocce
Experience the charm of Urban Bocce, bringing a touch of French culture to life in the bustling Quarter. This renowned pastime offers a relaxed yet competitive atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely game with friends or family. Urban Bocce will be available from 5-30 August, allowing plenty of time to enjoy this delightful game.
Community Chess
Prepare for exhilarating matches and camaraderie with community chess. This activity invites novices and masters alike to converge for the love of the game. Chess tables will be strategically placed throughout the Quarter, creating an engaging environment for all to enjoy.
Corn Hole
Partake in the cherished pastime of Corn Hole, where every toss of the bean bag becomes a moment of skill, laughter, and friendly rivalry. Corn Hole will be available at various locations, adding to the array of fun activities.
Urban Circuits
Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the Urban Circuits designed to get your 10,000 steps in and add variety to your workout. These circuits are perfect for all fitness levels, providing a fun and engaging way to stay active.
Quoits
Sharpen your aim with Quoits, a classic game dating back to Medieval England. This timeless activity offers a unique blend of history and fun, perfect for all ages.
Wimbledon Screenings
Sit back and enjoy the Wimbledon championships for free on the big screens in New Street Square, the Apex Temple Court hotel, and Fleet Place. This is a great opportunity to catch all the tennis action while soaking up the summer sun in a lively atmosphere.
Special Events and Activities
In addition to the regular activities, the Fusion Games will feature special events such as the Fleet Street Quarter Wallball Challenge on 18th July 2024. This one-day activation allows participants to compete in a simple challenge: who can hit the ball against the wall the most times in one minute. The tournament will be hosted during lunch hours from 12.30 to 2 pm, with exciting prizes like a £100 Amazon voucher (TBC).

Participation in the Fusion Games is easy and free! Ambassadors will be on-site to encourage visitors and passersby to get involved.
